What counts as a good WPM score?
WPM in this test uses the standard convention of five correctly matched characters = one word, including spaces. CPM counts every character typed. Accuracy is the share of entered characters that match the sample at the same position. This makes repeated runs on the same language and keyboard easy to compare; it is not a count of linguistic words.

Things that push your score up or down
- Accuracy. The WPM figure uses correctly matched characters, while CPM shows raw character throughput. A large gap points to errors rather than useful speed.
- Corrections. Backspace costs time, but finishing with accurate text is more useful than leaving mistakes merely to protect a headline score.
- Sample difficulty. Punctuation, numbers and unfamiliar words can lower speed. Compare several passages rather than treating one easy sentence as a personal record.
- Language and layout. Script, keyboard layout and input method all affect the result. Compare scores within the same language, device and layout.
