Text Reverser

Hello becomes olleH when you flip characters, World Hello when you flip word order, and reading a numbered to-do list from bottom to top is what reversing lines gives you. This tool does all three: character, word-order and line-order reversal. Character mode reverses Unicode code points and is multibyte-safe for ordinary accented letters, but emoji and combining marks can break because it is not grapheme-cluster aware, see the notes below.

How to reverse text

  1. 1

    Paste your text

A word, sentence, paragraph or list.

  2. 2

    Pick a reversal mode

    Characters (`abc` → `cba`), Words (`one two three` → `three two one`), Lines (flip line order).

  3. 3

    Reverse and check

Run it, then check the output. Text with complex emoji or accents may read better in word or line mode.

  4. 4

    Copy the result

One-click copy when it looks right.

Modes explained

Mode Input Output
Characters Hello World dlroW olleH
Words Hello World World Hello
Lines one\ntwo\nthree three\ntwo\none

Character mode reverses every character. Word mode reverses the order of the words on each line but keeps the line breaks. Line mode reverses the order of the lines.

Unicode and emoji

Character mode reverses text by Unicode code point, not by grapheme cluster. Most Latin accented letters are stored as a single precomposed code point and reverse cleanly, but a few things can break:

  • Combining accents: é written as e plus a separate combining acute accent is two code points. Reversing attaches the accent to the wrong letter.
  • Emoji: 🇪🇸 is two regional-indicator code points. Reversing them gives 🇸🇪, turning Spain into Sweden.
  • Skin-tone and joined emoji: 👍🏽 is a thumbs-up plus a skin-tone modifier. Reversing separates them.

If your text contains these, reverse by words or lines instead, or expect the emoji to change.

Fun uses

  • Cryptograms and puzzles: reversed words are a classic cipher for kids.
  • Backwards captions: mirrored text in memes and posts grabs attention.
  • Palindrome checks: reverse and compare. If the output equals the input, it is a palindrome.
  • Display tricks: reversed strings make eye-catching handles and headings.

Limits

  • Reversing does not change meaning in right-to-left scripts (Arabic, Hebrew). Those are stored left-to-right in memory and only rendered right-to-left.
  • Reversing word order in a sentence usually destroys the grammar. It is a novelty, not a translation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Character mode reverses Unicode code points, not whole emoji. Flags, skin-tone and joined emoji are built from several code points, so reversing rearranges their parts. There is no grapheme-aware mode, so avoid character-reversing text with complex emoji, or use word or line reversal instead.

Short reversed strings paste fine into Twitter/X, Instagram and TikTok bios. Some platforms clean up unusual character tricks, so test before relying on them.

It reverses the order of the words on each line while keeping each word readable: Hello World becomes World Hello. It does not reverse the letters inside a word, and it keeps your line breaks. To flip letters, use Characters mode.

Yes. When you press the button the text is sent to our server, reversed, and returned. It is used only to produce the result and is not stored.
