Random Prompt Generator
Beat a blank page with a random creative prompt. Choose one of three types (writing, drawing or journaling), set how many prompts you want (1 to 6), and click Regenerate for a fresh shuffle. The prompts are a hand-picked English set, from story starters (“Write about a character who discovers they can communicate with stars.”) to drawing ideas (“A dragon wearing a tuxedo”) and journal questions (“What am I avoiding, and why?”).

Regenerate
Click for a fresh random set. If one does not spark, shuffle again, but committing to a prompt usually beats rolling forever.
The three prompt types
The generated prompts are in English. Here is the flavour of each type:
| Type | What you get | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Writing | Story starters and scenarios | “A detective receives a letter postmarked 50 years ago.” |
| Drawing | Single-image art ideas | “A café at the edge of the universe” |
| Journaling | Self-reflection questions | “What does my ideal day look like?” |
How to use a prompt you do not love
Resist the urge to shuffle again. Most first-response resistance is the brain refusing to commit, not evidence the prompt is weak. Try one of:
- Invert it. “An elderly cartographer” becomes “a toddler cartographer”.
- Subtract a word. A prompt without its middle adjective is often stronger.
- Cross it with another. Pull a second prompt and force both into one scene.
The three-minute rule
For a warm-up, set a timer for three minutes and write or sketch until it buzzes, no editing, no erasing. The goal is not a finished piece, it is overriding the inner censor and getting something onto the page.
