Pomodoro Timer
Focus: 1 to 120 minutes. Breaks: 1 to 60 minutes. Focus blocks before a long break: 1 to 10.
Set up a focus and break cycle, review the optional sound, then run the timer in this browser tab. The defaults are 25 minutes of focus, a 5-minute short break, a 15-minute long break and four completed focus blocks before a long break. The live countdown and completed count are not saved.
How to run the timer
-
1
Set all four values
Choose the focus, short-break and long-break lengths, plus the number of completed focus blocks before a long break.
-
2
Review the options
Check the durations and decide whether the timer should try to play a sound when the phase changes.
-
3
Start the countdown
Start one focus phase. Pause, resume, reset the current phase or skip to the next phase when needed.
-
4
Continue the cycle
A focus phase that reaches zero increases the completed count. The selected interval determines when the next break is long.
Settings and limits
| Setting | Default | Allowed range |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | 25 min | 1–120 min |
| Short break | 5 min | 1–60 min |
| Long break | 15 min | 1–60 min |
| Focus blocks before a long break | 4 | 1–10 |
All values must be whole minutes or a whole number of blocks. The settings appear in the URL only after you explicitly move forward through the setup. The running clock and completed count never appear in the URL.
What the controls do
- Pause freezes the displayed time. Resume continues from that point.
- Reset current block restores the full duration of the current focus or break phase. It keeps the completed-focus count.
- Skip block moves to the next phase without crediting an unfinished focus block.
- A focus block counts as completed only when its countdown reaches zero naturally. Completing a break does not change the count.
Timing, sound and privacy
The countdown uses a monotonic deadline while the page is open. When a background tab becomes active again, the timer catches up to the current deadline and may advance through elapsed phases. Browser and device sleep behaviour differs, so do not depend on this page for timing that must remain reliable while a device sleeps.
If sound is enabled, the page creates Web Audio only after you press Start or Resume. Browser policy, device settings or unsupported audio features may prevent the cue from playing, so keep the visual timer in view when a missed transition matters.
The four setup values and sound choice may be sent in an explicit forward funnel URL. Active time, phase and completed count remain only in the current tab. Reloading or closing the page resets them. There is no account, saved session history, system notification or background service.
Frequently Asked Questions
It uses a monotonic deadline and catches up when the browser resumes the page. Browser throttling and device sleep vary, so keep the page visible when exact timing matters.
Only when a focus countdown reaches zero naturally. Pressing Skip does not increase it, and finishing a break does not increase it.
It restores the full duration of the current focus or break phase and stops the countdown. It retains the completed-focus count.
No. The page tries to use Web Audio after Start or Resume, but browser policy, unsupported audio or device settings can prevent the cue. It does not send a system notification.
No. The active countdown, phase and completed count live only in this browser tab and reset on reload or close. Only bounded setup settings may appear in a URL after you move forward.
