What this converter does

PDF is a fixed-layout format, while Google Docs is an editable document editor. This tool extracts the text layer that is already inside a PDF and packages the reviewed text as a standard .docx file. The PDF, extracted text and DOCX stay in your browser. The optional Google Drive button only opens Drive in a new tab; it does not sign in, upload a file or access your account.

A practical workflow

  1. Check that you can select and copy text in the original PDF. If you cannot, use a PDF OCR tool first.
  2. Upload the text-based PDF here and wait for the local extraction to finish.
  3. Read the editable text carefully, especially after columns, tables, footnotes and page headers.
  4. Download the DOCX file. In Google Drive, use New, then File upload, choose the DOCX, and open it with Google Docs if needed.

Google says that Drive can upload files and offers a desktop setting to convert uploads to Google Docs editor format. Google also documents that you can upload a file and choose Open with Google Docs to create an editable copy. Account rules and availability can vary, so this tool leaves that final upload entirely under your control.

Limits to know before you start

  • The PDF must be 25 MB or smaller and contain no more than 50 pages.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before text extraction.
  • This is not an OCR service. A scan that only contains page images has no text layer to extract.
  • The generated DOCX is intentionally text-first. It does not promise to reproduce pages, images, complex tables, comments or exact typography.
  • Google Drive and Google Docs are third-party services. This tool is not affiliated with Google.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The PDF is read in your browser and the DOCX file is downloaded locally. The optional Drive button merely opens Google Drive. You decide whether to upload the downloaded DOCX to your own account.

Not by itself. A scan that has no selectable text needs OCR before this tool can make an editable text document. Use a PDF OCR tool, then return with the text-based result.

PDF preserves a visual page layout. This converter deliberately creates an editable text-first DOCX, so it does not preserve images, exact fonts, multi-column layout, complex tables or page decoration. Review the text before upload.

Drive can keep Office files as they are or create an editable Google Docs copy, depending on your account settings and actions. After upload, choose Open with Google Docs when you need a Google Docs copy.
