How to fill a PDF form

    Choose an AcroForm PDF

    Select one PDF up to 20 MB. The browser checks its header, page count, field tree, widgets, and supported field limits.

    Review the loaded values

    Prefilled answers appear in the editor. Read-only fields and unsupported buttons remain visible but cannot be changed here.

    Enter supported answers

    Edit text, checkboxes, radio groups, standard dropdowns, and list boxes. Empty values can be cleared deliberately.

    Choose interactive or flattened

    Leave flattening off to retain editable fields. Turn it on only when you want a static appearance with form widgets removed.

    Validate and download

    The output is reopened locally and checked before the download link appears. Creating a server download page is a separate optional action.

Editable or multi-select dropdowns, buttons, and unknown field types are preserved but not editable. Read-only fields are also preserved. A form with no editable supported field is rejected instead of producing a misleading empty editor.

AcroForm vs XFA

  • AcroForm stores a field tree and page widgets in the PDF. This tool supports a bounded subset of those fields.
  • XFA is a separate dynamic form technology. XFA documents are rejected before their form structure is touched. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader for them.
  • Signatures and certifications can be invalidated by rewriting a PDF. Files with signature fields, signature byte ranges, or document certification permissions are rejected.

Workflow tips

  • Keep your original. Output is built from a fresh copy of the selected source, so the original file is not overwritten.
  • Check the recipient’s instructions. Some workflows need live form fields. Interactive output is therefore the default.
  • Use flattening deliberately. Flattening paints current field appearances into the pages and removes interactive widgets. It is not encryption, redaction, or a security guarantee.
  • Open the result in the destination viewer. Existing scripts, actions, submit buttons, and attachments are preserved, but this browser tool does not execute or verify them.

Common issues

  • Character support. Changed text and selected choice labels must fit the writer’s WinAnsi appearance font. If a value cannot be painted safely, creation stops with an error instead of leaving a stale value or missing appearance. Use a full PDF editor with an embedded Unicode font for that form.
  • Required fields. The required marker comes from the PDF, but partial output is allowed. Follow the form owner’s submission rules.
  • Flat pages. A scanned or ordinary PDF without AcroForm fields needs OCR or a form designer; this tool does not place new fields.
  • Complex forms. Encrypted files, dynamic XFA, signed or certified PDFs, corrupt files, and forms over the stated limits are rejected.

Privacy

The source PDF and answers are processed locally and are not sent to our servers or placed in funnel URLs. Funnel files use local browser storage. They become inaccessible after 30 minutes; an open page attempts to purge them, Start over confirms local deletion before leaving, and a later visit retries removal of expired records left after the browser was closed. Clearing this site’s browser data also removes them.

The local download does not upload the filled PDF. If you deliberately choose Create a download page, the derived PDF is uploaded. That file contains the original PDF pages and your answers and may be retained for up to 7 days. An upload failure leaves the local download available, but an interrupted network response can make server acceptance uncertain, so avoid repeated uploads of sensitive results.

The selected source and answers remain in local browser storage. A local download does not upload the result. Only choosing Create a download page uploads the derived PDF, which contains the original pages and answers and can be retained for up to 7 days.

The field may be read-only, an unsupported button, or an editable or multi-select dropdown. Dynamic XFA and signed or certified PDFs are rejected entirely because this writer cannot safely preserve those workflows.

Only when the recipient wants a static copy. Flattening removes interactive widgets and paints the current appearances into the pages, but it is not encryption, redaction, or tamper protection. Some submission systems require interactive fields, so the default is not flattened.

This tool focuses on filling existing fields. To add new fields to a flat PDF you need a form designer (Adobe Acrobat Pro, PDFescape or similar). The typical fallback is to print the flat PDF, fill it by hand and scan it back.
