Explore a representative selection from the Unicode Consortium’s official Emoji 17.0, 16.0 and 15.1 release charts. Each tile shows the emoji or sequence, its English CLDR short name, every code point in the sequence and its Emoji version. Skin-tone, gender and other modifier families are summarized rather than listed exhaustively.

The official charts count every standardized skin-tone, gender, directional, family and multi-person sequence. That is why the totals can be much larger than the representative tiles here. Emoji 15.1 contains many directional-person and family sequences beyond the six tiles shown. Emoji 17.0 also expands tone support for existing people-with-bunny-ears and wrestling emoji. Those existing base emoji are not presented as newly encoded characters in this explorer.

How to read the code points

A single emoji can contain one code point, while a sequence can contain several. U+200D is the zero-width joiner used to combine characters into one recommended emoji sequence. U+FE0F requests emoji-style presentation. The explorer copies the complete sequence, including these invisible code points.

Why an emoji may not render

Unicode standardizes the characters, sequences and names, but Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and other vendors draw and distribute their own glyphs. Support therefore arrives on different schedules. An unsupported item can appear as an empty box, separate component symbols, a monochrome character or two regional-indicator letters. Copying still preserves the underlying code points, but the destination app also needs a compatible font and renderer.

Browser and session boundary

Clipboard copying happens in your browser. In the guided version of the explorer, the chosen emoji is kept in this browser tab’s session storage for no more than 30 minutes so the next step can display it. The selected emoji is not sent to our servers and is not placed in the page address. If automatic copying is blocked, the explorer provides a field you can select and copy manually.

Tips for sharing recent emoji

  • Test the destination. Preview the pasted result in the same app and device family your audience uses.
  • Pair important symbols with text. A short caption preserves the meaning when a newer glyph is unavailable.
  • Treat variants precisely. A base emoji, a skin-tone variant and a joined multi-person sequence have different code-point sequences.

Unicode normally publishes a new Emoji version alongside its annual Unicode Standard release. The latest stable version covered here is Emoji 17.0, released on 9 September 2025. Emoji 15.1 was an interim release made up of new sequences rather than new encoded characters.

Yes. The Unicode Consortium publishes submission guidance and selection factors for public emoji proposals. Acceptance is not guaranteed, and a proposal that is accepted still needs a future Unicode release plus vendor implementation before it reaches keyboards.

Most country and region flags use a pair of Regional Indicator Symbol code points derived from a two-letter region code. A system that does not render that pair as a flag can show the letters instead. For example, the GB sequence represents the flag of the United Kingdom.
