Memory Game
Choose your game
The deck, flips, timer and personal bests stay in this browser. Funnel URLs contain only your public game settings.
NextFlip two cards at a time and find every matching pair. Choose a 4×4, 6×6, 8×8 or 10×10 grid, one of five card themes, and timed or untimed play. The timer begins with your first card, while moves and personal bests are tracked locally in this browser.
How to play
-
1
Pick difficulty and theme
Choose from 4×4 (8 pairs) through 10×10 (50 pairs), then select the card theme and timer mode.
-
2
Flip two cards per turn
If they match, they stay up. If not, they flip back after a short pause.
-
3
Find all pairs
Track moves and time. Match all pairs to finish.
-
4
Beat your best
Fewer moves and shorter time is better. Personal bests are saved locally.
Grid sizes

| 10×10 | 100 | 50 | 50 |
One move consists of revealing two cards, so a perfect clear takes exactly one move per pair. Real totals depend on the random layout and which positions you remember. Every new game uses a fresh Fisher-Yates shuffle.
Themes
- Emoji, colorful and easy to tell apart at a glance.
- Numbers, plain, faster to recognize, good for kids learning digits.
- Country flags, educational twist; harder because many flags look similar at thumbnail size.
- Playing cards, rank + suit pairs for a deck-style memory.
- Animals, a child-friendly set with clear silhouettes.
Practical ways to play
- Name the location. When a new card appears, note its row and column instead of relying on a vague impression.
- Use known matches. If the first card matches a value whose position you remember, reveal that known position second.
- Compare like with like. Numbers and cards use compact symbols; flags and emoji may contain closer visual similarities. Change themes when you want a different kind of challenge.
What the game can and cannot claim
Playing gives direct practice at this card-matching task and at recalling recently seen positions. It should not be presented as a proven way to raise general intelligence or improve everyday memory. A 2016 meta-analysis found that working-memory training gains were strongest on trained and closely related tasks, without convincing far transfer. A 2020 child-focused meta-analysis likewise found little far-transfer evidence against active controls. Treat this as a game, not a medical or cognitive intervention.
Accessibility options
- Colorblind-safe themes avoid relying on color alone; symbols and shapes differentiate pairs.
- Keyboard controls (arrow keys + space) work instead of mouse for players who can’t use a pointer.
- No time pressure mode disables the timer entirely so the game isn’t stressful.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Personal bests are saved in this browser for each grid size, theme and timer mode. The deck, flips, time and score are not placed in the URL or sent to our servers.
Yes. The game is touch-friendly; tap to flip. Grid sizes scale to fit smaller screens but 10×10 can feel cramped below a tablet.
Not currently. The traditional rule is turn-based, if a player finds a match they go again; if not, the other player takes a turn. Play on a shared screen to simulate it.
In the flag and emoji themes, some pairs are visually close (similar colors, similar shapes). That’s part of the difficulty at higher grid sizes. Switch theme if it’s frustrating.
No. The game keeps only personal bests in this browser; it has no account-based or global ranking.
