Domain Name Generator
Every useful 8-letter .com is registered. The game now is finding a name that is short, memorable and not a trademark minefield. This generator takes one seed keyword and produces variations using prefixes (get, go, my), suffixes (ly, hub, app), doubled first letters and number endings, each matched with one of six common TLDs. Use the ideas as a starting point, then check availability with a registrar; the tool itself does not check availability.
How to generate domain ideas
-
1
Enter a keyword
One word that describes your product, niche or brand idea.
-
2
Choose how many ideas
Set a number between 5 and 50. More ideas help you compare styles side by side.
-
3
Review the suggestions
Each idea combines your keyword with a prefix, suffix, doubled letter or number ending, plus a random TLD from .com, .io, .app, .dev, .net and .co.
-

Check availability yourself
The generator does not check availability. Search each idea at a registrar before you commit.
Name-style cheatsheet
| Style | How it works | Example with “cloud” |
|---|---|---|
| Prefix | Adds get, go, my, the, try or use | getcloud.com |
| Suffix | Adds ly, hub, io, app, labs, pro or zone | cloudly.io |
| Prefix + suffix | Combines both | mycloudapp.dev |
| Doubled letter | Repeats the keyword’s first letter | cloudc.io |
| Number ending | Appends a number | cloud42.com |
The generator mixes these styles at random, so regenerate to see fresh combinations.
Criteria for a good domain
- Easy to say out loud without spelling it: “vurk.com” fails the radio test.
- Short: under 12 characters if possible, under 8 for a brand.
- No hyphens or numbers: increases typo risk; always hard to dictate. A meaningful number (37signals) is the exception.
- Trademark clear: search the USPTO and EUIPO databases before committing.
- Meaningful enough that a customer who forgets the name can guess it.
- Social handle available: check Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok for the same handle.
TLD tradeoffs
The generator uses six TLDs: .com, .io, .app, .dev, .net and .co.
- .com is still the gold standard for US and international. Pay a premium if available.
- .io signals developer/startup but is a ccTLD with geopolitical risk attached to British Indian Ocean Territory.
- .app and .dev are Google TLDs requiring HTTPS by default.
- .co is a reasonable backup when .com is unavailable; many big brands hold both.
- .net is a classic fallback, often still available when the .com is taken.
- Country TLDs (.de, .fr, .co.uk) are appropriate for country-specific businesses; risky for global aspirations.
Trademark pitfalls
A domain you can register may still infringe a trademark. Before buying:
- Search the USPTO TESS database for the exact word and common variants.
- Check EUIPO and WIPO for international trademarks.
- Google the name with “LLC” and “Inc” suffixes for unregistered but established brands.
- If in doubt, consult a trademark attorney before investing in the name.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. It only creates name ideas. Availability changes constantly, so search each idea at a registrar before you commit to it.
If the brand is likely to grow, yes: protect against typo-squatters by owning .com, .net, .org and your primary ccTLD. For a side project, the main TLD is enough.
Numbers work when they are meaningful (404media.co, 37signals) but hurt memorability otherwise. Avoid substituting numbers for letters (4u, n8 for eight) unless the brand actively leans into it.
No. The keyword is used only to build the suggestions and is not stored. In the step-by-step version it appears in the page address so the next step can continue.
