Venn Diagram Maker

Venn diagram worksheet
Your title, set labels, and region notes stay in this browser. Funnel mode keeps one validated draft in this tab for up to 30 minutes and puts only an opaque job ID in the URL. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Choose two or three sets

Name each set yourself. The maker does not calculate membership, infer similarities, research a topic, or verify a comparison.

Build a two-circle or three-circle Venn worksheet using labels and notes you supply. Every mathematically distinct region has its own field, including the pairwise-only and all-three regions in a three-set diagram. The editor creates a responsive SVG preview, an accessible plain-text summary, a TXT download, and a browser print view. It does not classify items, infer overlaps, research examples, verify claims, export an image, or generate a PDF.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose and name the sets

Select two or three circles, add an optional title, and write one clear label for each set.

  2. 2

    Fill each distinct region

Enter your own exclusive, pairwise, and central notes in the fields that match their actual membership.

  3. 3

    Review and print

Inspect the diagram and plain-text summary, then copy, download TXT, or open your browser print dialog.

A Venn diagram represents sets with overlapping circles. The exclusive part of a circle contains notes that belong only to that set, while an overlap contains notes that belong to every set touching that region. This simple rule matters most in a three-circle diagram: the overlap of A and B outside C is different from the center shared by A, B, and C.

Start by defining the sets before listing observations. Labels such as “Option A” and “Option B” may be enough for a quick planning exercise, but precise labels make the result easier to interpret later. If you compare policies, products, texts, species, historical periods, or research categories, decide what qualifies for each set and use the same level of detail across all notes. The maker does not decide whether an item belongs in a region, so that reasoning remains yours.

Diagram region Two-set meaning Three-set meaning
A only Belongs to A and not B Belongs to A, not B, and not C
B only Belongs to B and not A Belongs to B, not A, and not C
C only Not used Belongs to C, not A, and not B
A and B Belongs to both A and B Belongs to A and B, but not C
A and C Not used Belongs to A and C, but not B
B and C Not used Belongs to B and C, but not A
A, B, and C Not used Belongs to all three sets

Work from evidence, not visual convenience

Do not put a note in an overlap merely because the center has more room. Ask the membership question explicitly. In a two-set comparison, “Does this apply to both A and B?” separates the intersection from either exclusive region. In a three-set comparison, follow with “Does it also apply to C?” before choosing the center instead of a pairwise-only overlap.

Keep entries short enough to scan, but do not remove the distinction that makes them meaningful. Parallel wording helps. For example, if one region lists a feature as a noun phrase, phrase comparable features the same way. When a claim depends on a source, keep the citation or evidence in your notes outside this worksheet. The diagram has no source manager, automatic citation feature, calculator, membership checker, or fact-checking service.

Blank regions are valid. An empty intersection can communicate that you have not identified a shared item, but it does not prove that no shared item exists. Likewise, a full-looking diagram is not automatically a complete analysis. Treat the result as a representation of the material you entered, not as evidence produced by the tool.

Two circles or three circles?

Use two circles when one direct comparison answers the question. It is easier to read and provides three distinct regions: A only, B only, and A with B. Use three circles only when the third set adds useful information. A complete three-set diagram has seven distinct interior regions, and readers can easily misread a pairwise overlap as including the third set. This maker names those fields as “only” while you edit so the distinction remains visible.

Switching from two to three circles preserves the A and B labels and notes you already wrote. It does not supply a C label or invent entries for the four new regions. If you return to two circles, C-related notes stay in the private draft so they are available if you switch back, but they are not included in the two-set preview, copied summary, TXT file, or print view.

The SVG preview scales to the available width and the print layout places the diagram above its plain-text summary. Long region notes can make any Venn diagram crowded, even within the 240-character field limit. Shorten the visible notes or move supporting detail to a separate document when readability suffers. TXT contains only structured plain text. Print opens the browser dialog; that dialog may provide Save as PDF, but the maker does not create, validate, or download a PDF itself.

Your title, set labels, and region notes remain in the browser. The optional four-step flow can retain one strictly validated draft in the current tab for up to 30 minutes, using a random opaque identifier in the URL. The complete editor remains usable when session storage is unavailable. Before sharing, compare the final diagram with your source material, verify each classification, and check the printed page at the intended scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. You define the sets and write every region note. The tool does not calculate membership, infer similarities, classify examples, research a subject, or verify your decisions.

It has seven distinct interior regions: three exclusive regions, three pairwise-only overlaps, and one center shared by all three sets. The editor provides a separate field for each one.

No image export is included. TXT download contains the accessible plain-text summary. Print opens your browser dialog, which may offer Save as PDF, but the tool does not generate or inspect a PDF file.

No. Editable values stay in the browser. Funnel mode can keep one validated draft in session storage for up to 30 minutes and places only an opaque random ID in the URL.
