Quality settings cheat sheet
- Q95: near-lossless, useful for print or large feature images.
- Q90: the tool default, a high-quality starting point.
- Q80: a smaller web export that still looks clean in most layouts.
- Q65: thumbnails and grids, with visible artifacts if you zoom in.
- Q40 and below: temporary drafts only. Banding and block artifacts will show.
Transparency caveat
Every transparent pixel is flattened to the background color you choose. Soft drop shadows become part of that new background. If your PNG has a soft shadow on transparency and you export it as JPG on white, the shadow will blend into white and may look wrong on a dark page. Keep PNG or SVG when transparency needs to remain editable.
Frequently Asked Questions
JPG is a lossy format, so some image data is discarded. At quality 85 and above the difference is hard to see on photos, but flat-color graphics and text screenshots can show halos around edges.
JPEG is tuned for photos, not sharp vector-style edges. Keep logos as PNG or SVG unless the logo is already composited onto a photographic background.
