EUR to USD Converter
Start with the euro amount you want to convert.
EUR/USD is the world’s most traded currency pair and represented roughly one fifth of global OTC foreign exchange turnover in the latest BIS survey. This converter multiplies a euro amount by the EUR/USD rate you enter, so you can use the exact quote from your bank, broker or payment app for travel budgets, invoices and salary conversions.

The world’s most-watched FX pair
EUR/USD moves the global foreign exchange market. Main drivers include:
- Fed vs ECB policy: Interest rate differentials and quantitative tightening or easing cycles can move the pair by 2-5 percent over several months.
- Economic data surprises: US payrolls, euro area inflation, retail sales and growth data can all trigger intraday moves.
- Geopolitical and energy shocks: European energy stress tends to weigh on EUR, while US political uncertainty can weigh on USD.
- Safe-haven flows: In sharp risk-off moments, USD often strengthens because of its reserve-currency role.
Recent history landmarks
- 2000-2002: EUR traded near its post-launch low around 0.83 USD.
- 2008: EUR peaked near 1.60 USD before the financial crisis.
- 2014-2015: The ECB quantitative-easing launch helped drive EUR from about 1.38 to near 1.05.
- 2022 parity: EUR briefly fell below 1.00 USD during the European energy shock, then recovered above parity through 2023.
- 2024-2026: The pair moved mostly through the low-to-high 1.10s, with a brief 2025 dip close to 1.02 and early 2026 reference rates around the mid-1.10s.
Consumer rate vs mid-market
The mid-market rate is the reference rate between buy and sell prices. Consumer transactions usually include a markup:
| Channel | Typical spread vs mid-market |
|---|---|
| Bank wire transfer | 2-4% |
| Wise, Revolut, Remitly | 0.3-0.8% |
| ATM withdrawal abroad | 1-3% + flat fee |
| Credit card foreign spend | 0-3%, depending on card |
| Airport exchange kiosk | 8-15% |
| Specialist broker for larger transfers | 0.1-0.4% |
For invoices, salary payments or large transfers, compare the total cost after fees against the mid-market rate, not just the headline exchange rate.
Travel tips
- Use a card without foreign transaction fees where possible. It is usually the best everyday option abroad.
- Pay in local currency at the terminal. Dynamic currency conversion, often shown as “pay in your home currency”, usually adds a 3-10 percent markup.
- Limit ATM withdrawals and choose fee-free machines where possible. Your own bank or card issuer may still add a separate fee.
- Keep some local cash for small vendors, taxis in remote areas and tips where tipping is customary.
Business transfer tips
- SEPA transfers are fast and low-cost for EUR payments inside the SEPA area, but they do not move USD.
- Bank wires are reliable but slower, often 1-4 business days, and can add a fixed fee plus correspondent-bank charges.
- Multi-currency accounts such as Wise Business or Revolut Business let you hold EUR and USD, then convert when the rate is acceptable.
- Forward contracts lock in a rate for a future payment, useful when EUR revenue and USD costs are predictable.
Time-of-day considerations
EUR/USD trades 24 hours a day from Sunday evening to Friday evening in New York time. Liquidity is usually deepest during the London-New York overlap, roughly 8 AM to noon ET. Overnight and weekend quotes are indicative, and spreads can widen outside active market hours.
