Classroom timer
Set a short activity timer for a room display. The activity name and settings stay in this browser.
Use this Classroom Timer to put a simple activity countdown on a shared screen. Add an optional activity name, choose a work duration, and optionally repeat it with a short break between rounds. The display, controls, sound choice, and settings all run locally in the browser.
How it works
-
1
Name the activity
Add a short display label such as Quiet reading, Pair discussion, or Pack up. The label is optional and stays in the browser.
-
2
Set the timing
Choose 1 to 180 work minutes, an optional 0 to 60 minute break, and 1 to 12 rounds.
-
3
Open the display
Start the countdown in the page or use fullscreen for a clearer room display. Pause, resume, reset, or end it manually.
-
4
Follow the visual cue
The timer changes phase at a scheduled break and shows a visual end cue. Sound is optional and depends on browser audio permission.
A visible countdown can make a short activity easier to pace without turning the display into a student record. Set the timer before sharing the screen, make the activity name short enough to read from a distance, and explain what learners should do when the display reaches zero.
| Example use | Work time | Break time | Rounds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silent reading | 15 minutes | 0 minutes | 1 |
| Retrieval practice | 5 minutes | 2 minutes | 3 |
| Pair discussion | 8 minutes | 0 minutes | 1 |
| Stations transition | 3 minutes | 1 minute | 4 |
The timer treats a break as a full separate phase only between work rounds. There is no break after the final work round. You can pause the current phase, reset to the first work round, or finish early if your activity changes.
Fullscreen and sound
Fullscreen is controlled by the browser and may require a direct button click. It can be unavailable in some embedded browsers or restricted devices. The visual countdown remains usable without fullscreen.
Sound is optional. Browsers commonly require a user interaction before they allow audio, and a device can be muted even after that. Treat the visible display as the primary cue rather than relying on an audible signal.
Privacy and scope
The activity label and timer settings are kept in browser session storage. They are not sent to our servers and are not placed in the page address. Closing the browser session or clearing browser data can remove them.
This is a local display timer, not a classroom-management system. It does not take attendance, store student work, create accounts, track participation, contact people, synchronize screens, control another device, or keep a historical classroom record. Do not enter sensitive student information into the activity label.
