Business Days Calculator

Business days

Need to know how many working days sit between two dates? Enter a start date and an end date, and the calculator counts the inclusive range using Monday-Friday as business days and Saturday/Sunday as weekend days. It also shows total calendar days and an estimated number of five-day work weeks; public holidays and company shutdowns are not removed automatically.

How the business day count works

  1. 1

    Choose the start date

Use the date picker or type a date in the browser's date format. The start date is included in the count.

  2. 2

    Choose the end date

Pick an end date on or after the start date. The end date is included too, so same-day ranges work.

  3. 3

    Apply the weekend rule

Saturday and Sunday are counted as weekend days. Monday through Friday are counted as business days.

  4. 4

    Review the breakdown

See business days, weekend days, total calendar days and the equivalent number of five-day work weeks.

What this calculator counts

Item How it is handled
Date range Inclusive: the start date and end date both count
Business days Monday through Friday
Weekend days Saturday and Sunday
Public holidays Not subtracted automatically
Work weeks Business days divided by 5

This is a weekday counter, not a jurisdiction-specific legal calendar. If your contract, court rule, payroll policy or shipping promise excludes public holidays, subtract those holidays separately after reading the result.

Example: 2 March to 31 March 2026

From Monday 2 March 2026 through Tuesday 31 March 2026:

  • Total calendar days: 30
  • Business days: 22
  • Weekend days: 8
  • Work-week equivalent: 4.40

If an official holiday or company closure falls inside that span, remove it from the business-day total yourself.

Weekend and holiday caveats

Many contracts use Monday-Friday as the default business week, but definitions vary by country, industry and agreement. Some places or teams work on Saturdays, observe Friday/Saturday weekends, or treat half-day closures differently. For legal, tax, payroll or regulated filing deadlines, always check the exact rule that applies before relying on a date count.

Use cases

  • SLA planning: estimate weekday capacity before applying contract-specific holiday rules.
  • Project planning: compare delivery windows using business days instead of raw calendar days.
  • Operations staffing: check how many Monday-Friday workdays sit inside a roster or coverage period.
  • Reporting: explain why two date ranges with the same calendar length can have different workday totals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The calculator uses an inclusive range, so both the start date and the end date are included. A Monday-to-Monday range counts as one business day if no weekend day is in between.

No. This version removes Saturday and Sunday only. If a public holiday or company closure should not count as a working day, subtract it from the business-day result.

No. The end date must be the same as or later than the start date. If you need the opposite direction, swap the two dates and read the count as the absolute difference.

It is the business-day total divided by 5. Use it as a quick planning estimate, not as a payroll or legal definition of a week.
