This is a casual local selection game. It does not handle money, prizes, payments, gambling, or certify fairness.

Create an amida lottery

Add the same number of top labels and bottom outcomes, with one item per line. Use 2 to 8 of each.

Use this Amida Lottery Generator to make an あみだくじ, also called amida kuji: a ladder of vertical lines and horizontal rungs that maps each top label to one bottom outcome. Add the same number of labels and outcomes, generate a ladder, then reveal paths one at a time or all at once.

How it works

  1. 1

    List top labels

Enter 2 to 8 names, teams, choices, or other short labels, one per line.

  2. 2

    List bottom outcomes

Enter the same number of outcomes. These can be chores, discussion order, menu choices, or any casual group assignment.

  3. 3

    Generate the ladder

The browser creates horizontal rungs between neighboring vertical lines. A path changes columns whenever it crosses a rung.

  4. 4

    Reveal paths

Reveal one route at a time for a group activity, or reveal every route to review the full mapping.

An amida kuji begins with matching counts of labels at the top and outcomes at the bottom. Each vertical line is a possible route. The horizontal rungs connect two neighbouring lines, so a route moves sideways when it reaches a rung and then continues downward. Every top label therefore ends at exactly one bottom outcome.

The ladder is useful for lightweight group choices such as a speaking order, who chooses a snack, or a classroom activity. It is not a gambling product, a prize draw, a payment system, or evidence that an outcome is fair in a legal, financial, competitive, or high-stakes setting.

A simple group setup

Top labels Bottom outcomes
Four participants Four turns in a presentation
Four teammates Four small tasks
Four meal choices Four people choosing an order

Keep the two lists the same length. A name or outcome can be repeated if your group intends that, but the tool will still trace each starting position separately. If you edit either list, generate a new ladder so the result matches the current labels.

Privacy and limitations

Names and outcomes remain in browser session storage while you use the generator. They are not sent to our servers and are not put in the page address. Closing the session or clearing browser data can remove them. Do not enter sensitive personal information on a shared device.

The generator displays a locally created ladder and its paths. It does not independently audit randomness, verify participants, prove consent, prevent manipulation, distribute prizes, process payments, or certify fairness. Agree your own group rules before revealing a result.
